Panti Bliss and Colm Parkinson, one of the presenters on the 'Off The Ball' radio show on Newstalk, have claimed that the Web Summit asked them to MC at the event for free.

Former footballer Parkinson revealed the news on Twitter, writing that he was asked to MC at the Web Summit, but he was then "informed there was no payment".

He wrote that he then "politely declined", adding "ripoff".

Panti Bliss shared the tweet, writing "Ditto".

"And it was an event for an 'invitation only' group of the heads of 'the worlds top tech companie$'". (sic).

Independent.ie understands that the event Panti was asked to host was the Night Summit pub crawl.

The crawl was previously hosted by Bono and Jim Sheridan. This year, it was hosted by Game Of Thrones' Aidan Gillen and radio host Dave Fanning.

The Web Summit declined to comment.

The Web Summit has come under fire in recent weeks since announcing the event would be moving to Lisbon.
