US pre-orders of iPhone hit one million
US first-day pre-orders of Apple's iPhone 4S have topped one million, breaking the record set by an earlier model released last year.
Apple and phone companies began taking orders last Friday while it will hit the stores later this week.
First-day orders for the iPhone 4 were 600,000 when it launched last year.
While it was only sold by AT&T, the latest model is also being sold by Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel.
The base model of the iPhone 4S costs $200 with a two-year contract.
While it had been widely anticipated that a brand new iPhone 5 would be launched, the new model has a faster processor and an improved camera.
