Social media site Twitter restored services mid-afternoon.

Users were left lamenting the lack of service as the latest in a line of outages in a number of days.

'Service issues' were first reported three days ago, with another two in the last twenty-four hours.

During these outages, the services are not accessible from mobile or desktop and all historical tweets are unavailable.

Third party apps also cease working with Twitter, including Tweetdeck, Hootsuite, Storify and more.

Twitter responded to the outage earlier this morning saying:

"Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution."

A company spokeswoman had no further comment.

Outages were reported across northern Europe, according to DownDetector.uk, an independent Twitter outage monitoring service.
