ONLINE review site Tripadvisor is setting up a new engineering hub in Dublin, creating 50 jobs in the short-term, and potentially more.

The new operation will be based in Dublin's Silicon Docks, the Docklands area where Google and other international technology companies also have offices.

The Dublin unit will be the largest of its kind to be established outside of the US by TripAdvisor.

The company said it is looking for innovative, self-starter, user-focused engineers to fill the roles. Recruitment will be led by new site manager Larz Holzman.

Some 200 construction jobs will also be created for the building of the office.

Tripadvisor's Andy Gelfond said the firm looked at many locations in Europe and around the world but chose Ireland because it has a tremendous pool of relevant talent - and because people from throughout Europe are interested in coming to Ireland to work. He added that the government had been "tremendously supportive".

The jobs announcement was made by Enterprise Minister Richard Bruton.
