IT was one of the most aggressively fought marketing campaigns of all time, but now it looks as if the ‘Cola war’ could be about to restart – as ‘Angry Birds’ drinks have began to outsell their cola rivals in Finland.
The hugely successful smart phone game, which has a large line of merchandise modelled on its characters, entered the soft drinks market in its native Finland earlier this year.
The drinks come in a variety of flavours, including the fruit-flavoured ‘Angry Birds Tropic’ and the mandarin and pineapple-flavoured ‘Angry Birds Paradise’.
Angry Birds Lagoon is apple and pear flavoured, while ‘Angry Birds Space Comet’ is orange and cola flavoured.
Rovio, the company behind the game, also plans to launch the drinks range in Australia and New Zealand according to chief marketing officer Peter Vesterbacka.
