Microsoft has launched a new app, Fetch!, and website, what-dog.net, that will show you what type of dog you or your friends are.

All you have to do is take a photo, if using the app, or use a photo from your computer and your result will be shown along with a description of the breed chosen. You can then share this instantly on social media, so expect to see the results of this crop up on Twitter and Facebook frequently in the coming days.

Of course, the app can also identify breeds of actual dogs too and tell you what kind of human personality matches with these breeds well.

Development director at Microsoft Research, Mitch Goldberg, explained that his team wanted to create an app that makes object recognition "extraordinary, fun and surprising." He said, “We wanted to bring artificial intelligence to the canine world. We wanted to show that object recognition is something anyone could understand and interact with.”

The team is no stranger to creating apps that take over social media. It was also responsible for the How Old app that takes a guess at how old someone is based on a picture. It also released the Mimicker alarm, which gets you to mimic an action to turn it off; that could be something like taking a selfie or actually getting out of bed.

Fetch! is now available to download on the App Store or you can entertain yourself on the website.
