VR could be the big thing this year, but it needs to gain traction. Dedicated VR experiences based on Star Wars and Assassin's Creed may help.

If there's anything that could tempt people to try virtual reality, it's a tie-in with a popular franchise. There will be VR experiences released for Star Wars and Assassin's Creed.

Footage has been released from the Star Wars VR experience, Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine, which will be available on the Vive headset. The experience arms you with a lightsaber and tasks you with fighting off Stormtroopers. Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine is described as a "cinematic virtual reality experiment," which RoadtoVR says is a 10-minute experience that focuses on deflecting blaster fire.

If a Star Wars experience doesn't appeal to you, perhaps you'll be more interested in an Assassin's Creed experience based on the upcoming film. It was actually shot alongside the movie during production, although little is known about what the VR experience will entail. The Assassin's Creed VR experience was created by FOX and Practical Magic. The Assassin's Creed movie will be released in December, and a sequel has already been green-lit. Ubisoft didn't reveal when the VR experience will be available.
