Sony sends out CES invites and teases new smartphone
Sony has sent out its CES invites, which feature pictures of a variety of products. Interestingly, the invitation features an image of an Xperia handset.
Sony has sent out invites for its CES press conference, which will be held on January 5th, 2016.
The invitation includes pictures of devices that you’d expect to see. Included are a VR headset, headphones, Hi-Fi speakers, an insanely thin TV, and a CyberShot camera. Interestingly, there’s also a picture of a smartphone.
This has sparked chatter that we may see the Sony Xperia Z6 at CES, or at least some sort of follow-up to the Xperia Z5. However, the timing seems a bit too soon for a new unveiling. Sony’s trio of Xperia Z5 handsets was announced in September and released shortly thereafter; it seems unlikely that Sony would release a replacement so soon.
We may, however, hear more about the rumoured Xperia Z5 Ultra. The 6.44-inch device is tipped to ship in March next year and may sport the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, 4GB RAM, a 23MP camera, and a large battery.
We don’t have long to wait to see what Sony has in store. It will take to the stage in Las Vegas on January 5th at 5pm PT.
