Snapchat is buying Bitstrips

Mark O'Beirne

Snapchat is reportedly buying Bitstrips, the company that lets users create a cartoon avatar of themselves, for somewhere in the region of $100 million.

Remember Bitstrips? They briefly took over social networks, letting users create an avatar and a comic to sum up a scenario.

Now, there are reports that Snapchat is buying Bitstrips, the company behind the Bitmoji app. Fortune’s Dan Primack reports that Snapchat is parting ways with a sum “in the ballpark of $100 million” for the company.

It's unclear what Snapchat has planned for the company and its Bitmoji app, but it seems like a fitting acquisition considering Snapchat is always looking for ways to let users spruce up their snaps.

Snapchat is yet to comment on the report.
