Second Apple Watch to have own mobile data
The new Apple Watch hasn't been announced yet but all signs are pointing to it having its own mobile data connection
The Apple Watch has been around for a year now, and while it's certainly one of the most successful wearables ever made the future of the brand remains something of a mystery.
There's no official word from Apple on a followup device but the rumour is that the first details will be coming out of the World Wide Developer Conference in June. And the latest whisper is that the Apple Watch 2 could have its own data connection.
Adding a SIM card to the Apple Watch would be a positive move, allowing people to access their email, messaging, apps and more while on the move without having to also be connected to an iPhone. Smartwatches remain curtailed by this constant need to be tethered and being able to go for a run while still remaining connected remains a dream for most of the wearable world.
That functionality would help Apple to stay at the forefront of the industry for the time being as it cements its position at the top of the wearable ladder but it could also come with compromises. One major issue with always on data connectivity is battery life, something which the Apple Watch had already come under fire for.
Hopefully we'll hear more about the Apple Watch sequel in June.
