Samsung shows off power of VR in playful Gear ad

Samsung has released an ad for the Gear VR headset as part of its “It’s Not a Phone, It’s a Galaxy" campaign, showing what can be done with the device.

Virtual reality and virtual reality headsets are going to be tricky to advertise, but Samsung has managed to do a pretty good job with its Gear VR ad.

The ad shows how easy it is to put the headset together and the range of content on offer. The viewer takes the place of the Gear VR user and pulls the headset towards them to see it used for cartoons, nature videos, and video games. When you’re done with the VR experience, you simply remove your handset from the device.

It’s all very clean and simple, yet gets the message across. The ad’s tagline reads, “Virtual reality just got real.” The commercial is part of Samsung’s campaign called “It’s Not a Phone, It’s a Galaxy.”

Samsung released the Gear VR in some markets last week. It will be interesting to see how widely embraced virtual reality is. There are quite a few companies counting on it taking hold.
