Robot Wars - the show where your really nice bot could get destroyed by a total stranger - is coming back to the BBC
Robot Wars is back, and it's better than ever.
That's probably the kind of tagline the BBC is going to go with when they introduce a full reboot for the show set for the near future. The original series has been off air on the BBC since 2001 and looked a bit like this.
Gosh remember that BBC ident?!
It was all very violent really, as home made bots did battle in arenas which looked like they came from a cheap spin off of Mad Max. Craig Charles said things while usually wearing something made from leather and a few nerdy folks stood around clutching controllers. Then there were the monsterous robots which belonged to the show, waiting to decimate all comers.
The new version of Robot Wars will be shot in a dedicated arena in Glasgow and will use the latest camera technology to really get up close and personal with all the gritty action. Robotics have come a long way in the last decade and a bit, and you can expect a lot of cool stuff from hobbyists.
There's no release date yet for Robot Wars but six hour long episodes are planned and we'd expect something to emerge by the end of 2016.
