Ubisoft says that Rainbow Six Siege's post-launch operators will take around 25 hours to unlock. Or alternatively, you could buy the Season Pass.
Rainbow Six Siege’s post-launch DLC will be free, but you’ll still have to put time into the game to unlock new operators.
Ubisoft maintains that it’ll take around 25 hours to unlock an operator released as DLC. In a statement on its website, Ubisoft said, “The data we have suggests that the average FPS player spends 8-10 hours a week playing their favourite FPS (also in-line with our observation during the closed beta), so it should only take between two to three weeks maximum to unlock an operator”
The developer is hoping that players will continue to come back to Rainbow Six Siege and play long-term. It is spreading out DLC releases over the year so that players with regular game time will be able to unlock operators upon their release.
The 20 operators included in the base game will unlock quicker, according to Ubisoft.
Of course, if you’re time poor, you can pay to unlock these operators. They can be bought individually or you can buy the Season Pass. R6 credits, bought with real money, can also be used for premium weapon skins and "Renown Boosters."
Ubisoft maintains that the release of the game is just the beginning; it will be interesting to see how its approach pans out.
