The best sporting event of the year is back for 2016 and the Puppy Bowl is taking its first cute steps into virtual reality
For some people, the Super Bowl is the sporting event of the year, as footballing legends come together in an epic faceoff that's one step removed from real life war. Just with more ad breaks. But for those in the know, the Puppy Bowl is where it's really at.
Started in 2005, the Puppy Bowl takes place every year in Super Bowl Sunday and is pretty much exactly what it sounds like - a load of adorable puppies are thrown into a minature stadium to re-enact a football game. It's chaotic and insanely cute and comes with full commentary.
The two hour game (yes really) uses upwards of 60 puppies which are all from shelters and available for adoption, and the half time show consists of a bunch of kittens chasing laser pointers and toys around the same arena. It's all shot over a number of days the previous year, with animal healthcare specialists on site, and frequent breaks to keep the cuties safe and happy.
Quite rightly, the Puppy Bowl is back for 2016 - set for Sunday the 7th of February - and this time it's in VR.
Animal Planet will be streaming certain angles from the Puppy Dome in 360 degree video, and you'll be able to peer around from inside a headset if you've got one, or pan and tilt on YouTube. It's going to be enveloping and adorable at the same time.
