Psychonauts 2's success could determine Brutal Legend's future
If Psychonauts 2 does well, Double Fine says, it may be more possible that we'll see a long-awaited sequel to 2009's Brutal Legend.
Developer Double Fine has said that if Psychonauts 2 does well it could open the door for a sequel to Brutal Legend.
In a Q&A on the fig funding page for Psychonauts 2, the developer wrote, "We've always said that we wanted to make sequels to both Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. We can't make any promises but if Psychonauts is a success for us, then perhaps Brutal Legend 2 will be more possible?"
Double Fine is currently seeking $3.3 million to develop Psychonauts 2. This, Double Fine says, isn't nearly enough to make the game - the original had a budget of between $10 million and $13.5 million - but the developer is getting funding from multiple sources. It will also be " putting up a significant portion of the development funds " itself.
Brutal Legend cost around $25 million to make, so Double Fine will be banking on Psychonauts 2 performing exceptionally well if it wants to make a sequel a reality.
