Nokia's OZO virtual reality camera available to pre-order
Nokia's $60,000 virtual reality camera, the OZO, is now available to pre-order. As you'd expect, the OZO is aimed at professional filmmakers.
Nokia has opened up pre-orders for its OZO virtual reality camera, but it doesn't come cheap.
The OZO costs $60,000, putting it out of the realm of the average consumer. This is very much a camera that's aimed at professional filmmakers or those who want to try out VR film and have deep pockets.
For that price tag, you get a device that offers stereoscopic 3D video through eight synchronised global shutter sensors (2K x 2K resolution per eye), and spatial audio thanks to its eight integrated microphones. The device also lets filmmakers monitor their project in real time by plugging in a head mounted display.
The OZO can shoot at 30 frames per second and holds 500GB of footage, which is about 45 minutes worth.
Those interested in the consumer virtual reality headsets that are to hit the market next year will be hoping that Hollywood embraces virtual reality. After all, content is king.
The OZO will begin shipping in Q1 2016 and is to reach global markets later in the year.
