New Tron game launches on PS4 and PC
Tron is a franchise that never dies, and the latest incarnation is an infinite runner with a very cool art style
You know what, we kind of liked Tron Legacy. Sure it was a bit of a mess in terms of its story and probably came along a decade too late but the visuals were out of this world and together with the Daft Punk soundscape it makes for one of the most unique big budget films of the last few years. It also had great 3D, which is something you don't see much of these days.
A major sequel was planned but everyone but seems to have slipped off into the abyss, as none of the actors are still attached, but that doesn't mean the franchise is dead. Disney has persisted with a decent enough TV show in the meantime and now they're turning their attention to games.
The latest is Tron Run/r and with a title like that you probably won't be too surprised to find out it's an infinite runner type thing where you'll use fairly simple controls to jump and glide and launch disks and whatnot. And you also won't be surprised to hear that it's absolutely gorgeous. Here's the launch trailer.
It started with a version on Steam Early Access, giving the developers the chance to grow and change the game in response to feedback from players. It sounds like there's a lot of potential in the idea, even if it is a pretty simple game in terms of mechancs, and we're certainly not going to argue with anything that gets us back into the over the top world of Tron.
We're not sure it will be able to replace the best Tron game in our minds, Tron 2.0, or maybe that's just the nostalgia talking...
Tron RUN/r is out now on Steam and PS4, priced at €20. It was set to launch on Xbox One but has been delayed for unknown reasons.
