New Mass Effect slips to 2017
The latest news is that Mass Effect Andromeda won't be arriving in 2016, with a proposed release set for early in 2017
It was always a foregone conclusion that the Mass Effect series would return in some form and so it came to pass, with Mass Effect Andromeda first mooted at E3 2015 and aiming for release at the end of 2016.
Somehow four years have already passed since Mass Effect 3 (and a little less time since the furore of its ending) so we were hoping to be returning to the universe by now. It seems that isn't the case, as EA has confirmed the new title won't be releasing until the first quarter of 2017. With the way game release dates work, that could be any time up to nearly summer, though the previous titles in the series have tended to land around January to March.
We don't know a lot about Andromeda yet, apart from the fact that it's going to be separate from the Mass Effect stories told to date. It's literally in a different galaxy and while the epic stuff which Shepard and co got up to may pop up in the storyline we're going to be playing as new folks with a new crew and a different ship.
Now we just have to while away a year until it ships!
