Mortal Kombat X beta will help refine online play

NetherRealm is launching a beta for Mortal Kombat X's new online system that will offer a smoother gameplay experience.
Mortal Kombat X players will be able to sign up to a closed beta today to help test a new online play system.
This system, NetherRealm says, will create a “smoother gameplay experience” and reduces the feeling of lag in online play. It’s based on a “roll back, simulate forward” model rather than the older dynamic input latency model.
The only requirement to sign up to the beta is to have at least an hour of online play under your belt. The beta will feature four characters: Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Johnny Cage, and Jackie Briggs.
Fighting games often live and die by the quality of their online offering. With competition to get much fiercer in the near future, it makes sense that NetherRealm wants to refine the experience now, especially if it wants to continue selling bonus characters like the recently released Alien and Leatherface.
