A new version of the immensely popular game Minecraft, dubbed the Education Edition, is going to launch in summer 2016
Minecraft has already appeared on pretty much every platform around, including mobile, and it remains as popular as ever. Now it's set to conquer schools with an Education Edition.
The folks at Microsoft are bringing out a version for schools which is designed to help kids get to grips with concepts in a world that they might be familar with. It's going to be a pretty normal version of the game but one that will allow for a class to work on projects together, with the supervision of a teacher.
Special maps will be created to teach certain lessons, or just give kids a space to play and be creative. You can wander around a blocky representation of the Pyramids or explore ideas of scale and depth, even tackle maths problems in a 3D world that's also fun to spend time in. After a beta release in May the first version of the game will be ready in June, and will run as an early access title over the summer to give teachers a chance to get to grips with the system.
