Internet super sleuths have dug into the recent Mass Effect Andromeda trailer and may have discovered the name of the title's lead character.
Mass Effect fans have been analysing the Andromeda teaser trailer released last week as part of the franchise's annual N7 Day celebrations and may have discovered what the main character will be called.
In the trailer, at the 0:44 mark, there is a snapshot of Earth taken from within the cockpit of a spaceship. On the left hand side, though very difficult to spot, is a dogtag. Reddit users zoomed in and enhanced the image and found that it says “Ryder.”
Reddit user Benelioto theorised that this may be a reference to Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. “This follows naturally from naming Commander Shepard after Alan [Shepard], the first American man in space,” they added.
It’s worth noting that the music for Mass Effect Andromeda’s E3 trailer was Johnny Cash’s Ghost Riders in the Sky, which may be another clue.
Details regarding Mass Effect Andromeda have been kept firmly under wraps so far, but perhaps there are more subtle clues just waiting to be discovered. We should hear more official details in the coming months.
Mass Effect Andromeda will be released in autumn 2016.
