Microsoft today announced that it is to close Lionhead Studios and cancel development of Fable Legends, while Press Play Studios is also being closed.
Microsoft is to close Lionhead Studios after making the decision to cancel development of Fable Legends.
Microsoft Studios Europe general manager Hanno Lemke made the announcement. In a post on Xbox Wire, Lemke wrote, "After much consideration we have decided to cease development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK.”
Lionhead isn’t the only studio to be closed. Microsoft is also set to close Press Play Studios (Max: The Curse of Brotherhood) in Denmark with development ceasing on Project Knoxville.
"These have been tough decisions and we have not made them lightly, nor are they a reflection on these development teams – we are incredibly fortunate to have the talent, creativity and commitment of the people at these studios," Lemke wrote.
The post concluded with a commitment to help those affected by the news to find new opportunities at Xbox or further afield.
