LG today announced a pair of smartphones to kickstart its new X series, the X cam and the X screen. The idea of the range is to take a premium feature from LG's flagship handsets and include it in a phone that bears "a price that rivals mid-range smartphones."

The X cam includes a feature that's tipped to be included in the upcoming G5; it includes a dual-camera system at the back, featuring both a 13 megapixel and a 5 megapixel sensor. The latter is likely to enable depth sensing and advanced shooting modes.

Meanwhile, the X screen features the familiar secondary display above the main display that can be used to display notifications, the time and date, and shortcuts to frequently used apps. The X screen's display measures 4.93-inches, and it offers HD resolution.

Both handsets feature 2GB RAM, 16GB in-built storage, and are thin and light.

LG's X series handsets will be released next month and will be available in white and pink gold. The X cam will also be available in silver and gold, while the X screen boasts a black model.
