The National Transport Authority has released the Leap Top-Up app on Android, letting Leap Card users check their balance and top-up on the go.

Leap Card users with Near Field Communications (NFC)-enabled Android phones can now download the Leap Top-Up app.

The Leap Top-Up app lets you check your balance, top-up your card with travel credit or collect pre-purchased tickets, including TaxSaver tickets. This should save you a trip to a shop or a mad dash to a top-up machine as a bus or Luas arrives.

To use the app, you simply touch the Leap Card against your phone. You can see how it works in the video below.

The app has been in testing for several months and the National Transport Authority (NTA) says that the feedback has been very positive so far.

The app is only available for Android at the moment. The NTA explains that Apple has not yet decided to allow access to NFC technology by third parties. If Apple opens up this access, the NTA will then develop an iOS version of the app.

The Leap Top-Up app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
