Kanye West is being sued after making The Life of Pablo available on streaming services other than Tidal after promising otherwise.
Kanye West made his most recent album, The Life of Pablo, available on Apple Music and Spotify despite previously announcing that it “will never never never” be released outside of Tidal. And now he’s being sued for that move.
Justin Baker-Rhett from San Francisco is filing a class action lawsuit over the breaking of this exclusivity promise. The suit claims that making The Life of Pablo exclusive was a ruse to get more subscribers over to Tidal. It also alleges that Tidal used the "exclusive" album to get personal information from the influx of new users.
Tidal certainly benefited from users signing up to the service just to listen to Kanye’s album. This would have made it more valuable to stockholders compared to competitors like Apple Music and Spotify.
Still, we’re not sure that Kanye’s public thoughts are the best grounds to base a lawsuit on.
