In case you hadn't heard, Robot Wars is back. And with the improvements in technology it's going to be a whole new ball game.

With a whole new presenting team. While fans of the old show might have been looking foward to seeing Red Dwarf's Craig Charles back for the new season the official presenter has been announced, and it's a really great choice. Irish stand up comic Dara Ó Briain will be introducing the bots and chatting awkwardly with people who sit in their sheds and make things that can destroy other things.

Naturally, the annoucement comes with some extra giggles.

Ó Briain will be joined in the heady task by Irish presenter Angela Scanlon, who has previously worked on the Saturday Night Show and her own doc series Full Frontal which aired in 2014. And happily voice over guy Jonathan Pearce will be back to say things over the silly fights.

The six part series is getting ready for production now, so we'll likely see it before the end of 2016. And they need you - Robot Wars fans can apply to see the battles first hand in the studio audience by contacting; by emailing or by calling 0208 5308 100.

Let's leave the last word to Dara:

"I am thrilled to be presenting Robot Wars. For too long, the schedules have cried out for a show in which dedicated amateurs, toiling day and night, handcraft sophisticated automatons built on the delicate interplay of hand-wired servo motors with custom-built circuit boards and fingertip motion control, just to see them get smashed to pieces by a dustbin carrying a massive hammer. It's war, and how I love it so."
