HTC Vive VR headset gets a firm release date
HTC has revealed when its Vive virtual reality headset will be released. It will start rolling out final versions of the headset next year.
HTC has announced that its virtual reality headset, the Vive, will be released in April 2016.
The company previously sold dev units and looked set to release a limited number of final Vive headsets by the end of the year. Now, its plans are “to launch a second generation of the dev unit at CES 2016, make 7,000 more units available to developers during the start of 2016, "followed by commercial availability in April 2016."
HTC made the announcement in a blog post and said that it hoped to “clear up speculation and misinformation" about the launch of the Vive. It signed off by saying, “We are incredibly excited about the future and look forward to sharing more information as we move forward towards launch.”
The HTC Vive will be released in April 2016, but if you attend events such as The Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, GDC and MWC, or one of HTC’s demo tours, you’ll be able to try it out first-hand.
