Google's iOS keyboard makes its search more prominent

Mark O'Beirne

Google is reportedly developing an iOS keyboard, which will make it even easier to quickly access Google's search engine.

Google is working on an iOS keyboard, but it's not out of the goodness of its heart; the keyboard puts Google search front and centre.

The Verge reports that the keyboard has been in development for months, citing people familiar with the matter. It adds that the keyboard offers gesture-based typing, the ability to quickly access Google search, and dedicated search options for pictures and GIFs.

Google is understandably trying to bolster its search engine's performance on iOS. However, it is still unclear when, or even if, Google plans to release this third-party keyboard.
