Google outlined how much it paid for its own domain after it was allowed to lapse last year in a blog post about 2015's "Google Security Rewards."
Last year, ownership of the Google domain expired briefly before being snapped up by ex-Googler Samnay Ved. Google revealed how much it paid for the domain in a blog post detailing 2015's "Google Security Rewards."
Google paid $6,006.13 for the domain. Google does say that you should look carefully at the number. It kind of spells out "Google."
Ved described how it came to be that he owned the Google domain for a brief spell. He was researching the Google Domains interface when he found that google.com was available to purchase.
He bought the domain for just $12, though the acquisition didn't last long, as the purchase was promptly followed by an order cancellation email from Google Domains.
