Using your smartphone while travelling to an EU member state will be cheaper from this weekend with a new wave of regulations being introduced.

It will be cheaper to use your smartphone while travelling in the EU from this weekend. A new wave of regulations are being introduced that will see the cost of roaming in member states reduced.

From April 30th, outgoing voice calls will cost the domestic price plus up to €0.05 per minute, incoming calls will cost €0.0114 per minute, texts cost the domestic price plus up to €0.02 per outgoing message, and data costs domestic price plus up to €0.05 per MB. It’s worth noting that these tariffs exclude VAT.

Things will get better for smartphone using travellers in the future too. Roaming charges are to be abolished completely from June 15th, 2017. This means that you’ll only pay your operator’s rate while travelling abroad.
