Dyson announced the Dyson Supersonic, a smart hair dryer that should prevent hair from being damaged through overheating.

Dyson has announced a smart hair dryer, the Dyson Supersonic, that’s designed to protect hair from damage by controlling temperature.

It features intelligent heat control with a glass bead thermistor measuring the air temperature 20 times a second. This sends the data to the Supersonic’s microprocessor, which then adjusts the heat to ensure that hair isn’t exposed to extreme heat.

Along with this smart technology, the Dyson Supersonic supposedly weighs half as much as most other dryers, can dry hair eight times faster, and has a built-in ionizer to deionize hair.

“Hair dryers can be heavy, inefficient and make a racket. By looking at them further we realised that they can also cause extreme heat damage to hair,” founder Sir James Dyson said. “I challenged Dyson engineers to really understand the science of hair and develop our version of a hair dryer, which we think solves these problems.”
