id cofounders John Romero and Adrian Carmack are making a fast-paced first-person-shooter inspired by the games of their past at their Galway-based studio, Night Work Games.

The pair launched a Kickstarter for Blackroom, seeking $700,000 in funding. The game will feature a variety of locations and settings with the team having plenty of freedom to run wild, thanks to its setting in a holographic world. Some of its levels will draw inspiration from the sights of Ireland, according to Romero.

Known for their work on games such as Doom and Quake, the duo plans to develop Blackroom in this vein. It’s being pitched as a fast and violent shooter with circle-strafing and rocket jumping. Blackroom will feature single- and multiplayer modes, and will boast modding support so that the community can come up with their own maps and creations.

A pledge of $29 or more will get you a digital copy of the game, a backer exclusive weapon skin, and access to videos, polls, and forums. Blackroom is expected to be released on PC in December 2018.
