Classic console manufacturer Coleco has announced that it'll be launching The Chameleon, a brand new console, next year
Classic gaming fans rejoice! Coleco, the manufacturer behind the classic Colecovision console (as your parents), has just announced that it'll be launching a brand new platform early next year, with an early look at the hardware scheduled for Toy Fair New York 2016, which runs between February 13th and 16th.
The Chameleon, the spiritual successor of that 1982 classic, looks set to be an affordable device for fans of retro gaming, with the company promising that it'll be capable of playing classic titles from the 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit eras, while also offering a platform for those who want to release new games built to classic specs. Whether that means it'll simply be an emulator-driven device along the same lines of the Retron series of consoles, or it'll actually be its own standalone platform on top of having emulation capabilities remains to be seen, but it's no doubt a device that's going to be of major interest to fans of oldshool gaming who may have found themselves growing increasingly weary of the modern day gaming industry.
Those of you looking for a shiny new cartridge-based system for your retro cravings should probably keep a close eye on this one!
