Netflix had some major announcements for CES 2016 and the biggest is a full global launch of truly epic proportions
As of right now, Netflix is available everywhere!
The news was announced by CEO Reed Hastings at CES last night, with the confirmation that the streaming service has added more than 130 countries to its already wide reach. “Today you are witnessing the birth of a new global Internet TV network,” said Hastings. “With this launch, consumers around the world -- from Singapore to St. Petersburg, from San Francisco to Sao Paulo -- will be able to enjoy TV shows and movies simultaneously -- no more waiting. With the help of the Internet, we are putting power in consumers’ hands to watch whenever, wherever and on whatever device.”
That's a pretty amazing piece of news, especially as the new countries went live during Hastings address. Most of the shows and movies on the service are in the English language but some new languages have been added, including Arabic, Korean and Chinese.
This move also brings a wealth of Netflix original content to hundreds of millions of new homes, including popular shows like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards as well as Marvel properties Jessica Jones and Daredevil. Netflix is also moving increasingly into feature film production, with more than 20 films set to debut in 2016.
Two of those new series also debuted footage today, check out the first glimpse at The Get Down from Baz Luhrmann and The Crown - from the writer of The Queen Peter Morgan.
