Best wearable devices to buy this Christmas

Wearable devices are becoming more commonplace, but have improved significantly from when they first appeared. Here are some of the best available today.
Wearable technology has become a more common sight in day-to-day life. You can even pick up a fitness tracker for your pet! While most wearables are known for their activity tracking capabilities, they can also be used to interact with apps, receive notifications, take calls, and, of course, tell the time. Unfortunately, Google Glass is yet to take off, so here are the best wearables to wrap around your wrist.
The Apple Watch has arrived in Ireland with all the style and functionality that you’d expect from an Apple product. It lets you track your daily activity, check important notifications, and make and receive phone calls. Apple is starting to link up with 3rd party manufacturers to give people more choice, including a recent partnership with Casetify that lets you don a strap with your favourite Looney Tunes characters.
Pebble Time Steel
The Time Steel is Pebble’s attempt to appeal to those looking for a more fashionable smartwatch. The wearable, as the name implies, packs more steel than Pebble’s other smartwatches. It offers the same great features, including amazing battery life and a waterproof design, though it looks much fancier. The Pebble Time Steel works with both Android and iOS, so you’re covered no matter which OS you use on a daily basis.
Sony SmartWatch 3
The Sony SmartWatch 3 is a very useful companion for your daily life. It provides you with notifications and your favourite apps, including messaging, social media, news and music, automatically sync with your watch. It’s packed with power and features a crisp and clear display that is very easy to read, even when outdoors in direct sunlight – you may need to work your memory to remember what that feels like!
Fitbit Charge HR
The Fitbit Charge HR is one of the best pure fitness trackers available. It is accurate in counting steps, has continuous heart rate monitoring for both resting and active use, and activates sleep tracking automatically. Plus, for the heavy sleeper, it offers vibrating alarms. Fitbit values substance over style, so it’s not the most fashionable wearable you can get, but it ticks all the right boxes where it counts.
The Withings Activité is nothing like your “typical smartwatch.” It looks like a more traditional watch, and oozes style. The Activité bears the coveted “Swiss Made” label, has a fine calf leather strap, and an attractive watch face. But although it looks like a fashionable watch, there’s a lot going on underneath the surface. The Activité is tracking all your movements to help you lead a more active lifestyle, tracks your sleep patterns, and is water resistant so you can track water-based activities.
