Apple is expected to release a glass-backed iPhone next year, something it previously featured on the iPhone 4 and 4S.
The end could be in sight for aluminium-cased iPhones, as rumours point to the release of a glass-backed iPhone next year.
Apple recently took a step back in time with the release of the smaller iPhone SE and could be set to take inspiration from the design of the iPhone 4 and 4S with a model coming in 2017. This, according to a note to investors from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, will help Apple stand out from the crowd.
In the note, he says that Apple wants to differentiate itself from the competition. He noted that many of Apple’s competitors have followed in Apple’s footsteps by releasing iPhones with aluminium casings, so he expects next year’s iPhone to feature a glass back.
The analyst also expects Apple to adopt an AMOLED display for next year’s model, which would compensate for the added weight of a glass back.
Apple’s next handset, the iPhone 7, is expected to be unveiled this September.
