AMD believes that its next generation of chips could see the price of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One fall.

CEO Lisa Su took part in a roundtable discussion at CES where she said that there will be opportunities for prices to fall this generation without a dip in performance. ""The consoles work on a five to seven year strategy, that's the lifetime for these consoles," she explained. "Without talking about any particular party's console - there will be opportunities to cost-reduce, Su added."

We're entering the third year of these console's life, which could well be heading towards the midway point of their life-cycles. In the past, we've seen changes to console production around this point that lowers costs. Those on the fence about purchasing a new PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be hoping to hear more about lowering costs in the near future.

Unfortunately, no time frame was outlined as to when we might expect to see a price drop.
