Amazon forces password reset after possible compromise

Amazon has forced some users to reset their passwords after it believed that some accounts may have been compromised.
Some Amazon users were unable to log into their account after the online retailer reportedly reset their passwords due to a possible security leak.
In an e-mail to affected users, Amazon said that there is "no reason" to believe that user credentials have been accessed by third parties. But it forced users to reset passwords to err on the side of caution.
"We recently discovered that your password may have been improperly stored on your device or transmitted to Amazon in a way that could potentially expose it to a third party," Amazon wrote. "We have corrected the issue to prevent this exposure."
The message was also sent to affected users’ account message centres on Amazon.com, and Amazon.co.uk, which confirms that the message is genuine.
