Sony delays release of Gran Turismo 5

Wednesday January 13 2010

Sony delayed the Japan release of its "Gran Turismo 5" video game for its PlayStation 3 console, due to go on sale in March, citing development issues, the company said in a statement today.

Games in the car-racing series have sold about 53 million copies worldwide since its debut in 1997, Yoko Sakaki, a spokeswoman at Sony’s game unit, said by telephone today. Sakaki declined to give a date for the installment’s Japan release, or for its sale overseas.

Sony rose 2.8pc to close at 2,998 yen on the Tokyo Stock Exchange today, prior to the announcement. That compares with a 1.3pc drop for Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average.
