Savvy travellers: One third of Irish switch off data while roaming in Europe

ONE third of Irish travellers turn off data on their phones while roaming in Europe - higher than the European average of 25pc.

Data from the E-Communications Household survey by European statistics agency Europe also found that 23pc of us avail of special roaming plans offered by mobile phone firms.

One in 10 make calls on their phones, slightly above average, while away while 57pc said they made fewer calls than normal.

And one in four said they sent as many texts when abroad as when at home.
