The Philips Airfryer provides a healthier alternative to frying, operating a grill and a fan which circulates super-heated air around the machine at high speeds to evenly cook food. You only need a little oil, about the same amount you'd use if roasting, to cook food in the air fryer.

It can bake, grill, roast and steam food, if you purchase separate accessories, so it's not just a one trick pony.

Most foods can be cooked within 30 minutes or less and you don't need to pre-heat the machine before cooking.

The Philips Airfryer comes with a cookbook which features up to 150 air fryer recipes and it comes with a huge celebrity endorsement from Gordon Ramsay.

I first tested the Philips Airfryer by cooking chips. I struggle to get chips crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside no matter what method of cooking I opt for so I figured chips would provide the biggest indicator of its abilities.

It was pretty easy to use. I stacked my chips (homemade, not frozen - I wanted to be as healthy as possible when using a machine that was crying out for me to make more sensible choices) in the little wire basket and placed it in the fryer. I set the timer and temperature buttons and waited.

Within 15 minutes I heard a beeping sound to indicate the job was done and the air fryer automatically turned off. No fear of overcooking or overheating my chips. The results were pretty impressive. They were cooked evenly. All were crispy but perhaps not as fluffy as I'd imagined. That was due to the thickness of my chips but an extra three minutes in the fryer did the trick.

Cleaning was hassle-free. The basket and the drawer have a non-stick coating and they're dishwasher proof.

Overall, I was pretty impressed. It did the job it promised to do. Cooking was done in half the time with less fat and less hassle. It's certainly not a necessity but a decent kitchen toy. The George Forman grill of 2017. Compare prices.
