Sony's Action Cam series has been really rather impressive to date. They have managed to provide good devices at affordable prices. The latest model, HDR AS100V is slightly more expensive, but is significantly better than previous models.
The device is similar in size to the popular GoPro cameras and is incredibly light too. One thing to flag is that there is a bit of set up required straight out of the box, so don't expect to simply open and go!
The camera has an LCD display and a number of buttons along the side – all of which are covered, ensuring they are protected from the elements!
The removable battery and micro SD card slot are also protected from dust, dirt and water. The small but sturdy device has built in GPS and can record speed, distance and time.
One of the killer features of the Action Cam is Sony's SteadyShot stabilisation. This produces a much clearer image, reducing the impact of every bump along the way. With its 13.5-megapixel sensor, the Action Cam captures sharper still shots than many of its competitors.
There are two microphones at the front of the camera which record in stereo. The sound quality is really quite impressive.
RRP for the Sony Action Camera is €429.
