Record second quarter for .ie namespace registrations
The total number of .ie registrations at end June
The demand for Ireland's official internet address .ie namespace from Irish businesses yesterday reported the best second quarter figures for domain registrations since records began.
According to figures released yesterday by the IE Domain Registry (IEDR), a total of 9,448 .ie domains were registered between April and June 2010, up 1.1pc on the same period last year. The number of new registrations in the first six months of the year was 19,099, practically equal to the 19,124 registered in the first half of 2009.
The total number of .ie domains at the end of June is just under 146,000, with Irish sole traders and limited companies accounting for 82pc.
The second quarter figures were "especially encouraging at a time when conditions remain testing for Irish businesses," David Curtin, IEDR Chief Executive said.
"IEDR provides businesses and customers with a local namespace that is trusted and respected internationally as one of the safest, most secure and resilient e-platforms in the world -- acknowledged by McAfee in its ranking of the .ie namespace as the second safest domain in the world after Japan."
