New €450m broadband network for 500,000 homes announced
The ESB and Vodafone have announced a new €450 million fibre broadband network to reach 500,000 Irish homes and businesses.
The new service is promising speeds of 1,000Mbs.
It is due to start in early 2015 with 100,000 premises connected next year and a further 100,000 premises connected each by ear until 2018.
The broadband will use ESB electricity lines to reach the homes and businesses.
"The fibre will be deployed on ESB’s existing overhead and underground infrastructure, ensuring a fast and cost efficient roll-out to every county in Ireland and reversing the digital divide between the capital and regional towns," said a spokesman.
