Everyone is talking about the massive security breach of 500 million Yahoo accounts, but security firm Sophos has given Yahoo users a list of things to do to make your account safe again.
1. Change your password now, especially if you haven’t changed it since 2014 when the hack originated.
2. If you’re using that password on any other sites, change those as well. Make sure each account you have has a different password.
3. Make sure all your passwords strong. Avoid birthdays, nicknames or names of family members and pets, because anyone can find that information. Mix uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers.
4. Change your security questions. Yahoo has invalidated the questions of all users affected by the breach, but it’s a good idea to change your questions even if your account wasn’t affected.
This breach is being called the worst hack in digital history, topping the theft of 427 million MySpace passwords in May.
