SLAPPERS and sleeveens will be dying for a gawk at this.

A new iPhone app promises to teach everyone a little Irish lingo, and it won't take donkey's years to learn.

The application 'iPaddy -- The Irish Slang Guide' has been launched to let users cop a little Irish wit.

The guide is available for download online from Apple's increasingly famous app store, where thousands of applications are available, from weather forecasts to software that turns your iPhone into a stethoscope.

The iPaddy app gives the user access to over 150 phrases, definitions and usages of Irish slang, read out by real Irish people.

Users will be able to copy what they hear and practise talking like culchies and jackeens.

The app presents the slang words and phrases on screen with a voice over, and cartoons that will be familiar from the bestselling O'Brien Press series of Feckin' books by Colin Murphy and Donal O'Dea.

O'Brien Press says this invaluable app is absolutely jammers with Irish slang nouns, verbs and sayings, including a few manky ones that are guaranteed to leave Oul' Wans and Holy Joes completely morto.

The app, the first of its kind from an Irish publisher, is available from the Apple Store now for €2.99.
