Google Glass becomes Project Aura

Google Glass will soon be called Project Aura and will fall under the remit of Alphabet. The project is also busy snapping up staff from Amazon.
Google remains committed to Google Glass, but now it’s called Project Aura and is a part of the Alphabet element of the company.
The name change isn’t official just yet, but the Wall Street Journal reports that it’s a done deal. Project Aura is also recruiting new staff directly from Amazon, according to the report. Google is likely to make a formal announcement in the coming weeks.
The reported rename could cause some confusion. Google already has Project Ara, a modular smartphone, in development. You may want to read a news headline a second time just so you’re aware if it’s the modular phone or the glasses that you’re about to read about.
Google is yet to comment on this report.
