Eircom said it will disconnect customers if they illegally download music owned by four record labels.
Customers that use its high-speed Internet service to illegally download music will get a warning to stop infringing copyright laws before they are cut off, Eircom said in an e-mailed statement late yesterday.
The agreement with EMI Ltd., Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music and Warner Music Group Inc. follows the ending of a lawsuit by the record companies against Eircom.
The settlement came after an eight-day trial at the High Court in Dublin.
“The record companies have agreed that they will take all necessary steps to put similar agreements in place with all other” Internet service providers in Ireland, Eircom said.
