Vivatar Vivicam X022
Price: €35 (Argos)
Entry-level digital cameras are starting to feel disposable. A few years ago, it would have been impossible to assemble the parts required – sensor, lens, video – for Vivatar's 10-megapixel X022 video-shooting camera for less than €100 at cost. Today, it's the price of a taxi ride from Dublin to Portmarnock. By the super-megapixel standards of today, the X022 is dull, with a basic 10-megapixel sensor, 4x zoom and a paltry ISO 400 (meaning it's pretty bad at shooting in dim light). Then again, it shoots video at an entry-level high-definition range of 720p with sound recording. It also has face detection (for one person) and even a smidgen of anti-shake control. True, if you have a high-end smartphone, a camera like this is utterly redundant. But if you don't, this can deliver basic, usable snaps on an extreme budget.
