Apple planning Jetsons-style home automation system

TECHNOLOGY giant Apple is planning a Jetsons-style software platform designed to turn the iPhone into a remote control for home lighting, security and household appliances.
It will take on rivals like Google and Samsung through the move which is expected to be announced at its Worldwide Developer Conference on June 2 in San Francisco, the Financial Times reports.
It follows Google's $3.2bn acquisition of Nest Labs in January and Samsung's debut of its Smart Home range.
The system was was outlined in an Apple patent filing last November.
Companies are looking for new ways to expand the reach of the smartphone wtih home automation seen as one of the next markets for growth.
